Place Names Register

The Place Names Register (PNR) is a national register which is aimed to collect and register Estonian geographical place names for preserving these as national heritage as well as for using them in different information systems. PNR was established by the Regulation of the Estonian Government of November 30, 1998.

The responsible processor of the PNR is the Ministry of Finance and since July 01, 2008 the authorized processor has been the Estonian Land Board.

The Place Names Register is available at http://xgis.maaamet.ee/knravalik/.

Interface of the service is from now on available in the Estonian and English languages.

The application allows to search place names by:

  • - name or part of the name,
  • - status,
  • - language,
  • - type of named feature,
  • - by location (county, municipality, settlement unit)
  • - using the Space filter

Search results (first 1000 of them) will be displayed as a table. The whole list of search results can be exported to *.csv file. There are no restrictions for capacity, you can export the entire register if needed)

You can move to the location of the object on the map (click ‘Identifier’ or ‘Spatial figure’) or you can see the full record of the place name (Title of the legal base, etc. in Estonian)
